CHARLENE has a unique and exciting style that reveals the inner beauty of her subjects. Because of her love of human expression she has gradually become more specialized in portraits. Her clear and powerful style is characterized by STRONG STROKES WITH PALETTE KNIVES. Her portraits have a striking style due to the chosen position of the head in close-up and the large canvas. Her feeling for color as an artist has been inspired by her years as a fashion designer.
The new serie “TRIBES SKINS” is a great combination of technique with Palette knives and this ‘living’ material. It's a search for the perfect balance in which the pattern of the soft skin completes the portrait
Charlene studied at some of the most prestigious art institutes in the Netherlands, including the Amsterdam Art/Fashion Institute AMFI. Her work has been shown and sold internationally and her work is part of several collections of international collectors. She made her American debut in 2009 at the Pearl District in Portland (Oregon) and already in January 2013 she won the 'Price for Best Painting’ at the London Art Biennale. She has been asked for several famous television productions in The Netherlands incl. ‘Painting the Stars’ and "De Wensboom" with famous Dutch Host Johnny de Mol.
Most recently she was able to present the DUTCH PRIME MINISTER MR. MARK RUTTE his portrait in person!
